From Radical Technology Teach-in
The radical technology teach-in is a one-to-two-day experience catered to activists, businessfolk, and / or journalists. The focus of this program is on rapid cultivation of tech-activism skills and outside-the-box thinking about technological tools and development.
The teach-in provides an opportunity for open-minded thinking about technology as evolution - participants often come in as disillusioned tech-skeptics and come out very excited about the direction of IT and even humanity more generally.
After undergoing this experience, participants will be capable of using one or more of several different flavors of information technology in the contexts of business, media, or movement organizing. See our topics.
Combined, these and other technologies add unprecedented methods to the toolkit of any activist, businessperson, or media operative.
Throughout the session, participants will actually build a set of tools for their own use – for example, a college organization may wish to begin construction of a wiki to track important data pertaining to their issues of concern. By the end of the session, this wiki will be fully functional and ready for use, with the participants fully trained in its operation.
The session itself it highly interactive, with the participants choosing which technologies to focus on. Using remote screen sharing, all participants will have the opportunity to interact with a live environment using a projected image in the teaching space.
The session is led by Justin Holmes, a leader in deployment of open source software for activists. See Testimonials from previous participants.
